The reformation of Social Security has been a hot topic debate since its inception in the 20th century. In the beginning it was a good way to help people save for retirement when they were unable to, due to a lack of discipline, or quite simply the lack of financial means. The problem with Social Security is that it is a means in which the politicians can redistribute wealth. Even those that have not paid into Social Security can still benefit from it, once they reach a ripe old age.

Another issue with the Social Security system is that it is a means in which the government has more control over the money earned by the population. There simply is no mechanism to opt out of paying a Social Security tax, as well as a Medicare tax. These politicians than cook the books so that these funds, which are supposed to be a government savings to help people when they retire, wind up being spent by the politicians on their pet projects. Unfortunately, we find that these funds are being pilfered faster then they can refill themselves. Where does this leave the man, or woman when it is finally time to retire. I am sorry, but we will put you into a group home for helpless persons where you can be abused by people that do not love you and they do not care if you live or die.

It is a horrifying scenario, but who loses? The people which continue to count on the foolish government officials which can do nothing right, and they have received there rewards as they stole the wages of the working man. It is time that individuals put themseleve in charge of thier own retirement fund and stop letting those politicians rob you. It is simply the time that we mothball the old system and allow people to invest in ther futures in accordance with what they deem best. If we do not act soon there will be nothing left for our children, and I love them too much for that.

If there were any honesty among elected officials the money we, the people were forced to pay into the SS system would have not been borrowed by other agencies, and never repaid. The system was set up with average life expectancies, with the expectation that people's hard earned wages forked over to the government, would be dead before reaching retiremnet age and actually collecting the benefits they were promised. They really need to stop giving SSI benefits to young alcholics, because in doing so those young men have no incentive to overcome their addiction.

I do believe Social Security was implemented due to the Great Depression after the Stock Market crashed. It was rather like a people's insurance policy against the unknown that might rip up their life savings, lose years of labor invested in paying for a home and so on. Never liked history. Now that I have taken a look into the past and learn of Prescott Bush, his frat, his association with bankers and Hitler, I am starting to think the collapse of banks that caused the start of Social Security type programs was just one big government plot to turn citizens into dependent sheep at the mercy of the government and monied.

I don't mean to laugh, but your poignant comments were so on target, the way you stated them made me laugh.
