Try obedience school. Not only will you get the behavior changed that you want changed, but you will have the added benefit of the other training that goes along with obedience school. Your pet will learn new vocal commands that will allow you to better control them. They also will love the extra attention they are getting. Most dogs are actually depressed after they graduate obedience school because they are not around people or other animals. The obedience schools are a little expensive, but it is better than jolting amps into your animal just to get them to stop barking.
Another method is to just try and spend more time with your pet. Some people who are novice dog owners will expect the dog to do the right thing whether they have been trained or not. If you spend enough time with your animal the obedience and the love will slowly get the dog to do what you wish. I had a Labrador one time that barked non-stop. I kept him outside and he did not like it. I started to lay with him in his pen at bed time for about ten minutes and that was enough attention to get him to quiet down for the night.
