I started introducing my daughter to the idea of potty training when she began to show signs of being ready, which was around eighteen to twenty months. I bought her a little potty and talked about it. By the time she turned two, she was interested enough to sit on it for a while, but nothing ever happened. We kept up the positive encouragement, and continued to talk about it, but her interest in potty training waned. When she was around two and a half, she would sit on the potty about once a week, and sometimes she had success. My husband and I would cheer and dance. We took her to the store to purchase underpants and training diapers, and she was so excited. However, when it came time to actually wear the big-girl pants, she tried it once and then refused. She began to say that she wanted to wear diapers forever. At a loss, I backed off completely.
