There are two main features that distinguish it from other regular heart rate monitors (HRM). The main characteristic of this monitor is that it can be held in hand to get the heart rate. Unlike other tools there is no need for this watch to be directly attached to the heart. This makes it more convenient for women as they don't have to cram this stuff with their bra strap. The second significant feature is that it is wireless. So this is portable and you can take the readings whenever and wherever you want.
The Fitwatch 10s has a host of attractive utilities and I have not tried all of them. I feel that apart from watch, HRM and calorimeter, other features are not significant and they are just an added attraction. Moreover I am not totally satisfied with the calorimeter. This is because the calorimeter reading that displays the amount of calories lost is based on the heart rate reading. So this does not give an idea of the overall calories spent but it gives the display based on the particular moment, the heart rate is taken.
