When it comes to Thanksgiving table decorations, nothing beats tradition. For the Thanksgiving holiday there are a few things that come to mind such as pumpkins, turkeys, and cornucopias, also known as a horn of plenty. Unfortunately you do not see these as much as you used to for the holiday. But sometimes it is good to see the traditional items making a comeback, especially as Thanksgiving table decorations.

The cornucopia signifies an abundance, or the bountiful harvest at the end of the growing season. Traditionally you have seen these with fruit and such for Thanksgiving table decorations, but for this project we will use fresh cut Fall flowers. Here is what you will need to make this beautiful display for your Thanksgiving table.

Horn of Plenty with Fresh Flowers: Materials

Wicker Horn of Plenty (These you can find in the floral department at your local craft store. Try and find one that is a good size. For example: At least twelve inches in length, with an opening of no less than a six inch diameter.)

Lining (This needs to be some sort of heavy plastic to line the inside of the horn of plenty. If possible, try and find one that already has a lining. If you can not find one that is lined, then you can line it yourself using a white plastic garbage bag.)

Floral Wet Foam Brick (You can cut this to fit inside the horn of plenty using a sharp knife.)

Floral Preservative/Food (You can find this in your local craft store; but it would be easier to pick some up when you went to the Florist for your fresh flowers. They will be able to tell you how much you will need once you have purchased the flowers.)

Fresh Flowers (You can use just about any flower you would like, but for this project you will need at least one bunch of the following: Yellow Roses and/or White Roses; Yellow Chrysanthemums; Burgundy or Dark Red Carnations; Red, Mauve, or Pink Freesias, and White Baby's Breath as a filler.)

Sharp Scissors (For cutting the plastic garbage bag, then washing and using to cut the flowers.)

Sharp Knife (For cutting the Floral Foam.)

Floral Pins
