Homemade American Pride Safety Pin of the United States Flag

This idea is one of my favorites, and I wanted to pass it along. It is a fun, simple way to show your American pride. This project can be done by anyone. You can make one for yourself, or make a few and share them with friends. Once you follow all of the steps, you will have an American Flag Pin that you can wear everyday.

What you will need:

1 large safety pin (1 ½ inches long)

13 standard safety pins (1 inch long)

44 small RED beads

38 small WHITE beads

35 small BLUE beads


What you do:

1 ~ Start by separating all of the beads and safety pins. You will have 3 piles of beads and two piles of safety pins.  

2~ Take one standard safety pin, open it up, and thread onto it 5 blue beads, then one white, then one red, then one white, then finish with another red. There will be 9 beads on the pin total. Close the pin and set aside.

3 ~ Follow step one 6 more times. You will have 7 pins threaded with the following color scheme – blue, blue, blue, blue, blue, white, red, white, red.

4 ~ On the remaining 6 standard size safety pins, you will alternate between red and white beads, starting with red for a total of nine beads. Each pin will begin and end with a red bead.

5 ~ Now, one by one, place each of the red, white, and blue pins on the large safety pin. It is easiest to thread the big pin through the circle at the bottom of the small pins. Be sure to wind the small pin all the way around to the other side as if you were putting a key onto a key ring. This ensures that it will not fall off.

6 ~ Follow with the red and white pins threading them onto the large pin in the same fashion.

In the end, you will have a beaded red, white and blue flag on a safety pin that you can wear everyday. Have fun and God Bless America!!
