Thought:

*"Kid Nation, are you KIDDING ME?!"*

Reason:

I didn't even watch the ridiculous show! As another CP has written, I ask you this, would you let your kid go on the show? I most certainly would not?! I don't think any good parent would. Could this not be physiologically damaging to your child, perhaps bringing to the surface some abandonment issues that wouldn't have been there in the first place? Or what if the kid fails to complete the season? Would this not bring about depression or other thoughts? The entire thing is a bad idea, making money off of little kids is cruel and disgusting! Your children need you for protection and I don't care how long they begged you to allow them to participate, you're the parent. In my opinion any parent who applied to put their child on the show is selfish. And what's even more sad than the parents of the children is the people who came up with th show to begin with. I know for a fact it couldn't have been just one or two individuals sitting around a table discussing this, commenting how good of an idea it is. It had to be at least 100 people all thinking "we could really make some money here using these little kids." That's the saddest part of all.

I would NEVER let my kids go on that show (I love my kids too much to exploit them like that) - but both of them love watching it. We watch it together as a family, and we've all really gotten into it.

I have no desire to watch the show-- I don't even like reality tv, but this.... this no way

When I first heard about it, I was also outraged, but curiosity got the best of me. We watched it last night and honestly, it wasn't anywhere close to what I assumed from all the hype. Watching the show changed my mind. I'm still not quite sure I would put my kids on it, but I think it was a great learning opportunity for the kids who participated. :-)

Unfortunately, the general public thinks "Kid Nation" is the first out of the gate. NBC used to air Discovery Kids "Endurance" on Saturday mornings so a kids reality show where potential bodily and/or psychological harm could happen already has a precedent which the critics left out. Granted the shows are different in scope and "Kid Nation" does stretch the age range lower than perhaps most people are comfortable with, I think it was well done and I found myself cheering on the kids.

I agree whole heartedly Tashia. Rediculous concept in my opinion and totally opportunistic;
