An Evening with Wynonna Judd

I am a huge music lover. As a Southerner, country music has always been my favorite musical genre. I am also a big fan of Wynonna Judd! Award-winning country singer Wynonna Judd is currently on a symphonic tour in support of her first Christmas CD, "A Classic Christmas" which will be released later this Fall. Recently, I saw Wynonna Judd in concert at The Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

A country music veteran, Wynonna Judd has been performing for over twenty years. Surprisingly, her current symphonic tour marked the first time in her career that she performed at the Kennedy Center. Accompanied by the renowned National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marvin Hamlisch, Judd performed recognizable standard, "I'm In The Mood For Love," classics made famous by her career as half of the hit-making, "Judds" duo, and covers of several adult-contemporary hits.

Ms. Judd seemed humbled by the opportunity to perform for the audience. "I am so blessed to have the opportunity to sing for you tonight. I can't believe I'm singing at the Kennedy Center! This is so awesome!" Judd said. Although the audience was more reserved than her typical fans, Judd found the humor in their reaction, "Ya'll are too quiet," Judd said, jokingly. After awhile, audience members relaxed and became more responsive. By the end of the evening, it seemed as if Ms. Judd had been performing for an auditorium full of her new best friends!

Although I live in the Washington DC area, Wynonna Judd's concert was the first Kennedy Center performance I had ever seen. As a person with special needs, I was provided with pleasant, attentive and friendly assistance by the ushers. I have attended concerts in different venues for many years, but never before have I received such excellent attention, respect and service.
