Whether you are a commuter or a dormer, there are a number of different things that you can do in order to feel safe on your college campus. Here, we will take a much closer look at some of the safety issues that you should be sure to consider every time that you are on any college campus. It is likely that all of these factors will help prevent you from facing any type of major dangers while on a college campus.

Do Lock Your Dorm Room Before Going Anywhere

One of the most important things that you can do is lock your dorm room every time that you leave, whether it is to go to class for a few hours or if it is to go to a vending machine to get a soda. You never know who make sneak into your room either to cause harm to you or to steal your possessions. It is likely that you would not leave your house at home without locking the door behind you, so the same should hold true in your college dorm.

Don't Walk Around Campus By Yourself at Night

There are some colleges that will tell you that you should never go out of your dorm at night at all, mainly due to the amount of crime that is experienced in the surrounding areas. Others will tell you that you shouldn't leave campus at night, for the same reason. No matter what the case is, you should never walk around your college campus alone at night. It is a good idea to stick with a group of friends at night. This will help ensure that you are not alone if you should be attacked.

Do Remember to Lock Your Car Doors at All Times

Whether you drive to your college campus or if you live on campus with a car, it is important to always remember to lock your car doors. Not only should you lock your front doors, but it is important to remember your back doors as well. Many students who do not have automatic car locks tend to forget that people can enter the car through all four doors, not only just the two front doors.

Don't Park Too Far Away From the School

Great article! It's definitely important to be safe on campus. Always know your surroundings, and even if one feels it is necessary get pepper spray, or a screamer.

Thanks for the comments! 2buzy, you're right. I tried to touch on that with dont party with people you don't know, but I probably should have added that too.

Good advice - although I would add not going out with anyone they don't know well, not just their teachers!

Great points, Jody. I was careful when I was at university. I didn't usually walk around campus late at night as most of my classes were over before dark. Sophie

Great advice! I especially like the section about not making visits outside of school with your professor (male or female).
