Why Do Muslims Dislike Dogs?: Distressing Facts

Muslims don't like dogs? Many of them don't.

As a non-Muslim, I find this attitude shocking and hard to understand. I found this out about six months ago chatting with some Muslims on an international forum. Somehow the subject of dogs came up. What I heard from them was that dogs are dirty, angels never enter a house with a dog,
black dogs are evil, and Allah will penalize you for owning a dog. This news was so distressing I had to research further, and this article is the result of that.

In the Islamic religion they have the Quran that can be compared to the Christian Bible. There are also the Hadiths, which are supposed to be a supplementation for the quran. The Quran is to be considered the word of Allah, whereas the hadith is to be considered the word of Muhammad. Hadiths started being written hundreds of years after Muhammad's death. I find it interesting that the hadiths with negativity towards dogs, directly contradicts the teachings of the quran.

Here is a quote from an Islamic Web site called submission.org, "Fabricated hadiths contradict the Quran. Many of them narrated by Abu Hurayra. Abu Hurayra, whose name is translated as, father of the little cat, hated dogs and women and from his mouth came many hadiths that insulted women and cursed the dogs and make them undesirable animals that need to be avoided and in other hadiths killed." There is a small number of Muslims that believe the hadiths are corrupt, and among them you may find some dog lovers. That is the dividing line. If a Muslim follows the hadiths they will dislike dogs and in some circumstances may even try to hurt them. As a side note, if you ever take a look at the hadiths many of them are violent in nature. While the quran seems to discourage violence.

actually, muslims are not against dogs at all. Ok so, they do not like to bring them in their houses. so what? i am a muslim, and my family does not do that either. BUT if you see a dog in need of help, you are SUPPOSED to go and help the dog, not just call them dirty. the Quran IS a peaceful book.

um there is a saying that we go by and it goes something like this "stretch your legs as long as your blanket" with that said if you know what that means...you should if you wrote whats above^^^..but any how if you wanna know something about a religion then you should first go and learn there language..as i can tell you don't but thats the only way you know what really is the truth...most of the stuff you wrote up there doesn't come even close about hadithes but as you probably rad it..it was in English where alot of the words are translated wrong..on purpose because there are always people like you....HAGD:)

I appreciate your knowledege from Quran and Islam, and your interesting research, I am an Iranian, I don't know about hadithes regarding dogs and I am not sure about all islamic countries, I live in a small city, I am familiar with the concept you point, but we have a dog, to protect our sheeps, you can't imagine some people without need to dogs, dogs are required to protect houses, sheeps, etc. also dogs are lovely and faithful animals and all could see that, muslem or non muslem, actually we love them we feed them but Islam regards them just dirty not devilish not anything else, it doesn't say one must not keep them but it says you shouldn't touch them, I can guess they are more islamic commands for the health, then Iranian don't keep them as pets, and gradually it coused we don't feel comfortable to touch them or even to contact ppl. who touch them, it may caused Iran regime deny ppl. of putting them in the public and treating them as pets while for protection every one can us
