Cold cases are the worse cases for the detectives to investigate. If a case is not solved, a lot of people will start to forget details over time and the crime scene will be reopened for the public. There are cold cases that are reopened after a number of years or when new evidence has arrived and the investigators find that it is an important part of the case.

If you have had a loved one who was murdered and the case is about to go cold or it has went cold, there are a few things that you can do to help the case.

Hiring your own personal investigator can help to solve the case or to bring in new evidence. Private investigators are not cheap but they usually have a team of people that can help to solve the case or reopen it.

If you choose to hire a private investigator, make sure that they have the proper credentials and that they are licensed to work in that state. Ask for references of people that they have helped so that you can see who are dealing with and how they work.

Keep track of everything that you possibly can and keep all the news clippings or news reports that have been done. Sometimes police investigators will forget certain details of a case and if you have the information like a coroners report or a list of items that was found at the scene, you can help to refresh their memory.

Use the news media to your advantage. The news reporters can be your best friend when it comes to helping to solve a case. There was one case that had went cold and the mother would call up the news stations every year on the anniversary of her sons death to do an interview of the case. The news reporters kept asking the public for information on the case and to call the police if you have any information. A few years went by and an anonymous tip came in that helped to solve the case.

Most murders are done by people that the victim knew. Keeping this in mind, you can keep an eye and ear out for anything that you think might help the investigators. Police investigators have a motto that they usually say, suspect every one and suspect no one.

Good advice, and another unique article idea. I agree, check the credentials of your P.I. if you go that route. A bad P.I. can do more harm than good for your case.
