The Tragedy of Abuse Amongst Senior Citizens
Senior citizens make up almost 34 million people in the United States. It is estimated that one in twenty of those senior citizens will end up needing some form of assisted living. This means that there are a wide range of home health aids and nursing home facilitators that are needed. With the rise of the demand on this type of work, nursing homes have gotten a certain amount of desperate in hiring staff to assist in this form of employment.We hear about senior abuse and how to look out for it but most people do not even know what qualifies as senior citizen abuse. Senior citizen abuse can come in many forms and it is something that we all need to look out for when our loved ones have no choice but to have assisted living arrangements. Nursing home negligence, personal injury, and the death of senior citizens has been in a rising state. This has made many senior citizens and their families to become worried about their situation and what they can do about it.
There are lawyers who specialize in this field of work and there are also private investigators who can determine if such abuse has been occurring.
Abuse does not just come in a physical form. Abuse can be mental, sexual, physical, or financial. One of the most common forms of abuse for senior citizens is financial abuse. Financial abuse is caused when their finances have been tampered with by an unknown source. There are a number of people who have been on trial or suspected in tampering with a senior citizens finances. If you have a loved one who is in a nursing facility or has a home health aid, keep track of the finances and if you are the sole person who keeps track of the finances, you should pay close attention and ask for documents for your record on anything that has to do with the care that they are receiving.

my grandmother was sexually abused by her son in law and Social Services did nothing. The nurse aid that was there to take care of her knew what he was doing but didn't report it. My grandmother was 94 years old when she was abused by a man in his 60's. Social Services agreed my grandmother should stay in a basement with only 1 exit and with stairs although she was using a walker to get around and that $300 of her social security was being used for clothes n shoes a month and the rest for rent in an illegal apartment. My grandmother spent 1 year with no communication with any of the grandchildren becuase we were no longer allowed to see or speak to her and not until her death did we see her. If anyone knows any agency I can contact to pursue this please write back. Thank you

You shouldn't have to hire an attorney to deal with elder abuse. The state needs to be more aware of this situation and be legally authorized to act on the knowledge of other caring family members. The State of Georgia can only make a recommendation. What a waste of taxpayer money. My sister is raping my father of all his money and I can't seem to do anything about it, even through the court system.

I have learned the sad way, adult protective services, only is there for any adult, that is getting abused by there provider, family member, or another individual taking care of them, Seniors that are victims of verbal abuse while living in an Independent ret. plaza, here in san antonio,Tx. cannot rec. the protection of adult services, since the building is individually owned by a ret. basketball player, we have made police reports and took the chain of command, to only receive harrasment, and retalation from managment and the employees that work for this corp.they are the perpertrators of this verbal abuse, against a few of us senior that live here.
Being its known a nop-profit organization, receives federal funds, Persons making monies using senior citizens as a ploy..We have been informed after reporting this issues, to a lot of these agencies, that we do not qualify for their help, how about that!Because this facility is independently owned, and us tenants that do not have a prov

My mother is 75yrs old totaly old school, I suspect and been told bi my doughter my mother took my son back to live in her apt. After many yrs of bein a rebel, he's been in and out of camps, rehabilitation programs, house arrest, etc my daughter move out of my mothers do to the fact mother(grandmother) well aware my son was choking my daughter behind the influence of meth, (DRUG) oviuosly the idea is there of what the situation is, I know my mother loves her grandchildren of 21 and 22 yrs of age, for yrs do to my own experience, of struggles, I seek help, and my life has made significant progress, for the better , my mother is in denial, about the elephant being in the center of the house (my son) he is getting conterfit money to buy meth (drug)from the dealer, I'm to the point it wouldn't suprise me if gets kill, shot, my concern is about my mother, she is as sick as an alcoholic, cocain addit, meth addict, the only difference is that she doesn't drink, or use any kind of mind alterin

I lived w/my daughter. She charged me 600.00 a month plus I had to buy and cook my own food. She would not let me keep my small cockerspaniel in my room. I moved to my own place which Im buying. She will not release some of my items and my washer. I rely on neghibors to wash clothes. I have no vechicle. I recently suffered a broken neck and cant walk too good. Is there something I can do?
