Virtual Assistant Jobs for Senior Citizens

Senior citizens will often grow tired of feeling like they have already lived their life. They want something more and something that will help them in a financial situation or to just have something to do.

Virtual assistant jobs are in high demand right now and they often require for the individuals to work on weekends and at different hours of the day. There are a lot of senior citizens who are working in this field because it allows them to work from home.

Most virtual assistant jobs look for people who have administrative or organizational skills. This is an Internet based job and is not for someone who is not comfortable with working on the computer or on the Internet.

Virtual assistants are individual contractor who often work from home to provide a service. Most of the services that they provide are administrative work, technical, and even creative services to companies who need their help. It is sometimes easier for a company to hire someone to work from home than what it is for them to lease and office building for employees to work out of.

Being a virtual assistant usually means that you will be paying your own taxes and will need to file forms with the IRS for being self employed. The pay ranges and can often be set by the assistant or they are put on a salary or per page pay. A per page pay is where they pay you a set price for every page that is completed. They have also been known to pay by line or by the word.

There are a lot of different companies that will make your search for a job a lot easier by matching employees with employers for work that they need done. Some companies will need a small fee to do this and others may charge the employer instead of the employee for the service. It is always best to check into all the companies before doing any work for them. Even the service company that matches businesses with employees needs to be check out so that you can make sure that it is not part of a work at home scam.

After more than 30+ years working in law firms and a few years as director of a nonprofit, I "retired" several years ago to my own business as a virtual assistant. I'd been working at it already for several years --- now have about 10 years in as a VA. I love the work. It allows me to travel and take my business/work along with me. If you are truly experienced as an administrative/executive assistant or have a niche, such as real estate paperwork, this may be for you. Do some research --- don't over-invest yourself in equipment/software to start. See if you can get some of your personal business contacts to use you initially, and give it a try. It's not for everyone. You have to be prepared to work 24/7 when the work is there --- and you have to be a self-motivated type. But it's sure a viable alternative to retiring on nothing! Excellent article! I've had this job idea recommended to me before and it sure looks promising. Working from home is an attractive option, especially in the winter.
