If you have a saltwater tank you probably have a few hermit crabs crawling around in your saltwater tank. People either purchase them because they like them or they make a wonderful clean up crew. The crabs will sift through the sand and look for food. They will eat pieces of algae off of your live rock. In order to clean the glass in your aquarium you will need to purchase snails instead of crabs. Often times, some types of hermit crabs will kill snails to steal their shells. The Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab will not kill any of your snails if you provide the snails with many different types of empty shells.

These hermit crabs stay very small at under one inch in length. They are also very easy to care for. You can purchase food that is made specifically for hermit crabs. You will usually find it near the hermit crab food in your local pet store. You can also purchase this food online if you cannot find it at the pet store. The Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab needs to stay in a temperature of at least 71 to 76 degrees. You also need to keep the salinity at 1.022 to 1.024. This will work well with all of your fish and coral as well. Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crabs will not destroy your coral like some other types of fish will.

If you have a really bad green hair algae problem, this is the solution for you! Purchase about one hermit crab per gallon of water in your fish tank. The Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab is actually less expensive than your average snail, which doesn't make much sense. They are usually around one dollar. If you have a 75 gallon saltwater tank you will want to purchase at least 75 hermit crabs. You will also need to purchase a lot of empty snail shells so that they can upgrade their shells and move once they get big enough.
