Sitting in your home office and drudging through the long work day can have you watching the clock. If you have a project that is due, you will keep an eye on the time as you near the deadline. This is especially true if you have put the project off until the last minute. When procrastination takes over, you need to pull out your time-management skills and get back on track.

Anyone who has been in business very long has heard about time management. Everyone knows that staying on top of things is best for productivity, but how can time really be managed effectively?

Time-management strategies are not as elusive as you may think. You have the tools you need to manage your time effectively. Numerous everyday items found around the office can help you to stay on track. Some effective tools for time management include:

*calendars

*planners

*clocks

*computer alerts

*to-do lists

*time management/step ahead worksheet

*time block worksheet

In business, it is imperative to know the date. Dates are important for a number of reasons. Writing checks for payroll and bills must be done by a particular date. Business trips and meetings are held on a special date and location. Time sensitive documents must be mailed and received by a specific date. A calendar can allow you to keep track of time and the date. Post a calendar in a prominent place in your office. Desk calendars are a terrific idea. Several calendars are available with features to further employ your time management strategies and meet your needs.

Business planners have become common place for many business men and women. The business planner can be very versatile and portable. Writing down due dates for projects, meeting times, and your other important dates and times will help you to remember them. If you forget when an appointment was scheduled, you can easily flip through the planner and find out.
