Kids love video games including ones you can find on the Internet. Some sites use this knowledge for good and create games that kids can play that actually teach them something. KidsCom.com just added a new virtual game that teaches kids about Global Warming in a way that they can see and understand. Here is some more information on the game:

In KidsCom.com children take care of virtual pets called "Plant babies". This is similar to the site Webkinz where children have to feed and care for their pets. KidsCom.com, however, uses plants to take kids on a virtual world of learning. Their newest game is called "The Adventures of the Idea Seekers: Sarillion's Climate Crisis".

The game takes place on the planet Sarillion in the Idea Seeker's Universe. Kids are faced with several different climate changes that they must find solutions too. What I like about this idea is as each child goes on their expedition they are learning things they can do in real life. So once they turn the computer off, they can put what they have learned in to action. And if you have a really outgoing child he or she can share this information with their classmates.

KidsCom.com teams up with scientists from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at the Earth Institute at Columbia University in order to bring accurate information to their game. Parents can be sure that their children are learning correct information about Earth's climate changes and things kids can do to help. Kids will also learn how they can help their parents save on energy costs. There is so much your child can take away from this site and I highly recommend you give it a try.

What I have found to be true with my daughter is that she doesn't care much about grown up issues until I make it fun for her. If it is something a child can participate in that gives them a sense of power. Then they are more likely to help out and do their part. KidsCom.com does just that with their new game, "The Adventures of the Idea Seekers: Sarillion's Climate Crisis". They make learning about science fun and thought provoking. If you are a homeschooling Mom you may want to consider adding this site to your lesson plans.

Takeaways
  • A great way to teach your kids about Global Warming.
  • Scientist approved.
  • Kids can also learn how to help their parents save on home energy bills.
