Entering the pet store, one realizes that pet store owners are just like grocery store owners. They display their cutest animal's right out in front, on the eye-level of where the children can see them in much the same way that grocery store owners display their candy. I have to admit, it's hard to resist those big wide-eyed puppies or playful kittens. I explained to the clerk that we were looking for a pet and that I was on a limited budget and repeated the list of what we had already ruled out. He stated that did not leave much to choose from, but looking at my sons said he may just have the answer.
He took us to the back of the store and showed us an aquarium full of small lizards called geckos. My sons' faces lit up as they stared at the tank full of these small greenish-grey lizards (about 6" to 7" long). I thought, a lizard? I just stared at the things while my sons were commenting on how cool it would be to have a lizard. No one they knew had a lizard.
