Sen. Charles Grassley (R) Iowa, Insults Longtime Supporter and Senior Citizen at Recent Townhall

Sovereignty, what does that word mean to you? Is it a laughable term? Apparently Sen. Grassley thought so at a Town Hall meeting in Wapello, Iowa this summer.

Background:

Sen. Charles Grassley is the 15th highest-ranking Senator. He took office as a Senator in 1980.

Senior lady has been a conservative Republican since the Lord created them. Now 74 years old, she has been a huge supporter for Sen. Grassley for his entire career.

Now we begin:

Sen. Grassley holds "town meetings" visiting every county (99) in Iowa at least once a year, usually more.

The senior lady, being a huge fan, attended the last town hall meeting in Wapello, Iowa. There were quite a few that showed up in the small courthouse room.

Four people that showed up were not local folks. They were definitely there to cause Sen. Grassley grief and followed him on his day of meetings.

The senior lady and I listened intently to all Sen. Grassley had to say. Then he took questions as he usually does. The lady's "discussion" with the Sen. from Iowa went like this.

She said she was concerned about illegal immigrants and the cost the county was incurring because of them. She also said she was worried about the border and the super highway that was being built. She said, "Sen. Grassley, I fear we are losing our "sovereignty" in this country.

To this, Sen. Grassley smiled, then chuckled, then took a stern look at her and said "Do you even KNOW what the word sovereignty means? I don't think you do."

No answer to the super highway. No explanation. No time for the stunned woman to recover and explain to HIM what sovereignty meant. Blew her off in a heartbeat.

Well Senator, YOU had it wrong. Bouvier's Law Dictionary (1856 editions")=Sovereign State- One which governs itself independently of any foreign power.

The super highway that has already been started in Texas is being built by Spain. That is a foreign power the last time I checked.

Sen. Grassley owes this senior lady an apology. She has worked on his behalf for years by getting out issues that are important to him. By explaining said issues to those who didn't understand. By encouraging people to read his voting records.
