CIA Releases Info on A-12 Oxcart, Predecessor of the Blackbird Spy Plane

ANOTHER SUPERSONIC WONDER - THE A-12 OXCART

For those of you aircraft buffs who read and enjoyed the article on the SR-71 Blackbird, you're gonna love this...

Through the Freedom of Information Act, the CIA (who operated the U-2 and Blackbird spy planes) has just declassified some 1,500 pages of formerly secret documents regarding the experimental predecessor of the SR-71, the A-12 Oxcart (see picture).

The documents include photographs, maps, and diagrams of the A-12. With a design speed of Mach 3.2 (2,300 MPH), the A-12 is considered by many as still being the fastest flying aircraft in aviation history (contrary to continuing rumors of the secret hypersonic Aurora pulse-jet project).
