Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese philosophy of using a person's environment to increase positive energy, or chi, which results in health, prosperity, and good luck. Use of proper Feng Shui colors is an essential way to better your circumstances. For specific ways to use Feng Shui colors to promote positive energy, click under the headline on the author's home page.

The color red is one of the most important Feng Shui colors. Red represents the Chinese Feng Shui element of fire. Red and its fire element symbolize excitement, luck, energy, and passion. The presence of red strengthens Yang energy. If your environment has a properly balanced element of fire within it, you will experience more romance, happiness, and good luck.

Of all the Feng Shui colors, red is one of the strongest. When combined with Feng Shui decorating, red represents opulence. In most rooms, red should be an accent Feng Shui color. Very little red is needed to obtain its positive effects. If too much red is used for Chinese Feng Shui decorating, it can have negative consequences. Results of using too much red in Feng Shui decorating are outbursts, nervousness, and irritability.

Because the color is so dominant, there are certain rooms where red should be used very sparingly. Nurseries and children's rooms are areas to avoid using too much red. The living room and dining room are locations that can use more red if desired.

Locations of rooms in the home also determine where and how much red should be used in Feng Shui decorating. The southern portions of your home are the best areas for using red, especially directly south and southwest areas.

To use red in Feng Shui decorating without upsetting the fire element, use red in accessories such as figurines, photographs, books, and other decorative elements in most places. Red tassels are often found in Feng Shui decorating to create fire energy.

I tend to surround myself in greens in recent years but I'm really drawn to red here and there and love it when accented with gold. Very interesting article Angela.
