A rose is one of the most beautiful flowers you can grow in your yard. And, there are so many varieties, there is sure to be one to satisfy the taste of everyone. Roses, like all plants, need certain nutrients to grow and bloom. Feeding your roses naturally is better for you, the roses, and the environment.

If you want your roses to be healthy, it is advisable to follow a regular fertilizing schedule. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the nutrients that are needed the most. However, there are other nutrients that are important. These include sulfur, calcium, and magnesium.

Nitrogen is the most important element to all plants. This nutrient helps the plant to grow strong and sturdy and produce many leaves and flowers. Your roses will need a steady supply of Nitrogen because it used rapidly.

Plants need a much smaller amount of phosphorus. However, it is still an essential element for healthy growth. This element helps the plants' tissues to mature. Mature plants have a better chance of surviving the winter months.

To move food through the plant, potassium is needed. Your roses will bless you with an abundance of flowers if you supply them with enough potassium. Sandy soils are in greater need of this element that other types.

Your plants will give you signs as to what nutrients they are lacking. If the growth is stunted and there are pale green or yellow leaves with weak stems the plant has a deficiency of nitrogen. There is too much nitrogen present if there are many leaves with few flowers and roots are not well developed. Give your plants more potassium if the leaves are dark green on top and red to purple underneath. Weak stems, wilting, and low flower output indicate the need for potassium.
