The USS Nightmare, a floating haunted steamboat attraction, is in its 16th season on the Ohio River, just across from Cincinnati, Ohio in Kentucky. Now floating at Newport on the Levee, the USS Nightmare was gone for a while, but is now back, ready to terrorize teens and adults alike.

The USS Nightmare is much like the typical haunted houses that crop up in Cincinnati and around the nation around Halloween. What makes the USS Nightmare unique is the fact that it is a real steamboat actually located on the Ohio River. Water at night is scary enough in and of itself, so the USS Nightmare already has plenty going for it before patrons even enter the attraction.

A visit to the USS Nightmare will lead you on a footpath through the hulls and decks of the boat. You'll be startled and scared at every corner as live cast members dressed as dead ship crew members and other ghouls jump out at you, make loud noises, and give you some other great nightmare material. This year's USS Nightmare promises more special effects than in past years. It will take between 30 and 40 minutes to get through the entire USS Nightmare. That's a lot of fright.

Tickets for the USS Nightmare are steep at $15 a person. If you want to bypass the line to get in (it's generally at least an additional half hour wait) you can pay $20 to get inside the boat immediately. There is no special pricing for children since the show is not recommended for children at all. Teens and adults are the intended audience for the USS Nightmare. There is a $4.00 off coupon available on the website at www.ussnightmare.com.

The USS Nightmare runs at Newport on the Levee from September 28th-November 3rd Wednesday through Sunday. The hours for Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday are 7:00PM-11:00PM while the USS Nightmare is open from 7:00PM-1:00AM on Friday and Saturday nights. If you want to avoid the largest crowds go early, since most groups of teens and college students tend to show up later in the evening, while more families with older pre-teens and teens arrive early.
