A patriotic theme is a great way to create a festive and memorable wedding reception. When using a patriotic theme in your wedding reception go all out. The sky should be the limit. Your wedding reception is a time to enjoy with family and friends after all the hard work and stress of planning your wedding. A patriotic theme is sure to make your wedding reception fun, spectacular, and best of all a great way to honor your country.

One of the first ways to incorporate a patriotic theme in your wedding reception is to take advantage of the casual nature of the groom’s cake. While the groom’s cake is traditionally a Southern addition to the wedding reception, it is growing in popularity and showing up nation wide. The groom’s cake is traditionally a flavor beside vanilla and usually reflects the personality of the groom. A chocolate cake with a flag design created on top in icing is fun, festive and tasty. Cup cakes often substitute for groom’s cake in the past few years. These are a hot trend at many weddings. Add miniature American flags to the cup cake to carry on a patriotic theme at your wedding reception.

The tablecloths and chairs are a great way to carry out a patriotic wedding reception theme throughout the reception room. For a more understated look use patriotic material as the base fabric and drape white line fabric that allows the patriotic fabric to peak through. This can tone down a busy fabric. On the other hand reversing this combination is a great way to create a patriotic accent. Make sure you choose an accent fabric that is not too busy. Large flags would be a good option versus fabric covered in tiny American flags. You could also use red and blue base fabric on all of your tables, alternating as you go, and top each off with the crisp white linen topper. The flower centerpieces could incorporate some more red and blue.

Crisp white table clothes could be accented with chairs that are slip covered in patriotic fabric. For a more subdued look use the traditional white slip covers and tie large ribbons or strips of patriotic material around the back of the chair and tie a bow.
