If your social activities group is looking for something to do for Thanksgiving, for nursing homes you would be a good match. There are plenty of things that you could do to help out during the holidays. This activity is geared for Thanksgiving. For nursing homes residents, you can bring in a smile to make their day.

Here is what you will need for this project:

Thanksgiving Bountiful Bouquets: Materials List

Small Clay Pots (Get the ones that are about four inches in diameter.)

Artificial Flowers (Get Fall colored flowers. Find yellow or red chrysanthemums, white baby's breath, and small brightly colored sunflowers.)

Dried Moss

Floral Foam (You can buy these in a block, and cut them down to size to fit inside the pots.)

Floral Pins

Small Decorative Accessory (Look for small pumpkins, gourds, or scarecrows that come pre-made with the floral picks.)

Designs or Stencils for the Flower Pots

Acrylic Paints (Whatever colors your designs call for.)

Paint Brushes or Stencil Brushes

Wire Cutters (For cutting the flower sprays from the bunch, and to snip the stems to the right size.)

¼ Inch Ribbon (Get this in Thanksgiving colors.)

Thanksgiving Bountiful Bouquets: Putting It Together

Now that your group has all of the supplies for this project for Thanksgiving for nursing homes, but before you begin to put them together, make sure that you know exactly how many you will need to make. This way you will not get there to deliver them and end up a few short. A bit of homework can save some stress later on down the road.

Take the clay flowerpots and paint on whatever designs you choose. It could be a few pumpkins, a Turkey face, grapes, or anything related to Thanksgiving. For nursing homes bountiful bouquets, since the flowerpots are so small you do not want the design to be too large or have too many colors. Painting the flowerpots is only to add a small splash of color and it also gives you the chance to make them unique. Depending on the number of Thanksgiving bouquets you need to make, try painting no more than three to five each in the same design.
