Fall TV: CW's Reaper This Falls Devil in Disguise

The new CW show Reaper ties with Pushing Daisies (Wednesdays, ABC) as most high concept of the new season. And actually these shows have more than a little in common; while both might seem dark, they are both more comedy than drama. Once you get past the initial set-up of each show, the cast and writing will win you over.Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison) is your classic slacker, almost 21 and still living at home with his parents (Allison Hossack and Andrew Airlie), and his younger brother Keith (Kyle Switzer). We meet Sam stuck in a dead end job at the Workbench, a home improvement store, because college made him sleepy.
The premiere of the series begins on Sam's 21st birthday. Breakfast with his normally very straight and overly supportive family seems strange as they appear oddly emotional as if there is something weighing on their minds. Things at work get even stranger, culminating in Sam saving co-worker and secret love Andi (Missy Peregrym) from a boxed air-conditioner falling off a skid from a fork lift. The strange part? He managed it with only the power of his mind.
The strange occurrences in Sam Oliver's life take an even more bizarre tone when he leaves work for the day and is startled by a man in his backseat who claims to be the Devil (Ray Wise). This understandably freaks Sam completely out causing him to have an accident, only to find himself alone in the car.
After walking home he finds his dad waiting for him.
Dad: "Hey sonny"
Sam "Dad? What are you doing?"
Dad: "Waiting for you...you ok?"
Sam: "No...I think I might be going insane!"
Dad: "Bad day?"
Sam: "Um lets see a...got chased by a pack of dogs, moved an air-conditioner with my mind, and oh ya the Devil tried to carjack me, so...overall...not a great day."
