Do you have a beloved budgie or two that you would love to have breed with one another? After all, what's more wonderful than baby budgies! It is some pretty exciting business that you are dealing with.

If you are looking to breed budgies, it is important that you choose healthy and mature budgies that are not suffering from any sicknesses such as respiration problems, and nasal or eye discharges. And as mention above, it is important not to pick young budgies that are not mature enough as they will not be ready for it, and it will cause them a lot of stress. Young males will be infertile, and young females may develop with egg bound problems. It is important to check for a couple of signs to insure that your budgie is mature enough. One, their beaks should have solid colors. Only young budgies will have patches of different colors on their beaks. Also, the skin above their noses should not be pink at all. The best way to insure their age would be to talk to their carrier for a specific age.

When breeding your budgies, there are a couple of materials that you will need to purchase like a breeding cage, nesting box, bedding, and brooder. The bedding of the nesting box is something to keep in mind as it helps provide traction for the babies. The bedding should normally be of cedar or pine shavings. Once the chicks start to feather out, some breeders will choose the change the bedding; however, this may cause the mother to abandon nest.

Once you get all of the equipment available, your pair of budgies should start to court. After mating, the female will usually lay the egg within a day or two. Normally, the clutch will consist of two to six eggs. If there are more eggs, they should be removed. The rest that happens usually will not need your interference at all. You can expect the chicks to come after a pip hole appears on the egg which is small cracks on the egg.
