Of all reality shows I am particularly impressed with the resolve and motivation of the Biggest Loser contestants. I find myself pulling for all of them and admiring their ability to swallow their pride, get out of their comfort zone, and allow millions of us to watch them in their oftentimes painful step-by-step journey from a very unhealthy before to unspeakably inspiring after.

This season is shaking out to be no different. For those of you who may not know, it started in the desert with Alison Sweeney (Days of Our Lives) welcoming all 18 contestants. Bob Harper is back for his fourth year as the fitness trainer of the blue team. Kim Lyons returns to the cast as the fitness trainer for the red team. A sky-dive landed both trainers in the desert establishing what would become the finish line for the first challenge. The first two contestants to cross it became the captains for each team. All 18 contestants sprinted for the trainers with a grandfather Jerry, age 62 winning the foot race and becoming the captain of the blue team. Phil, an aspiring firefighter, age 27 finished second and became the captain of the red team. Both captains then picked the remaining five members of their teams. Six contestants were not chosen and seemingly headed back home. Once the red and blue teams disappeared from sight headed for the Biggest Loser campus via bus, Jillian made a dramatic entrance on a motorcycle. Jillian assured the outcasts that team captains Jerry and Phil will regret overlooking them once she has made them a force to be reckoned with.

The red team has won both challenges to date but has failed to show results where it counts the most... on the scale. The team has voted off Amber, a 30 year old paramedic from Houston, Texas (who had expressed a desire to quit) and Lezlye, a 34 year old Katrina survivor, respectively.
