OK, so I don't have children of my own, yet I think I have some pretty good ideas on how you should raise yours. Why, you ask, if I don't have my own kids, do I have the right to be making suggestions? Well, I've worked with kids in various settings for about ten years now. From in-home care to daycare centers, I've seen my fair share of good and bad techniques. So from where I stand, I'm hoping to make your job of taking care of your children a lot easier, and frankly, my job of taking care of your children a lot easier, too.

Do I think I know everything about children? Of course not. Is there a right way to raise every child? Of course not. Take everything that I say with a grain of salt. These are simply my experiences and thoughts. I've been at my wit's end with a child, and I don't even spend 24/7 with them. So do I really know what it's like to be a parent? No, I don't. But I certainly know what it's like to take care of a problem child that someone else has created, and it's usually relatively easy to figure out why the child is that way.

It seems like so many parents get caught up in their jobs and lifestyles that they forget their number one priority should be their child. When did children become the latest trend in accessories? You've got the husband; you've got the job...now you need the kid to have the complete ensemble? One catch: all sales are final with these babies. No refunds if your up-all-night child doesn't go with your 7:00am business meeting.

It is said that raising kids is 90 percent common sense. You can have 10 kids and STILL not have an ounce of common sense, nor have organized thinking or the capacity for love and affection. Having reproduced like a rabbit doesn't automatically give a woman wisdom in how to raise kids. There are people with 10 kids who still don't know what the hell they're doing. I'm glad to see this kind of article.

Your advice to remember to keep their kids a priority is something all parents need to remember.

I have worked with children for over thirteen years. I have cared for children from all walks of life, from children who didn't have homes, to children who came from wealthy families. I didn't have kids during my thirteen plus years in the business and I knew all the text-book versions of child rearing. I am now a mother to two wonderful ten month old girls (twins) and nothing prepared me for motherhood. I found it easy to suggest to parents how they should handle their kids, but motherhood taught me a valuable lesson.
