In the following tutorial I will be teaching you how to add color to certain areas of a black and white image. I will be using Adobe Photo shop.

First, open up your Photo shop program. Once you have that up, open up a picture that you will be using. It can be a colored picture. If your picture is colored, you can turn it to black and white by going to Image and Adjustments then Desaturate. After you desaturated your picture, go to Filter then Sharpen and sharpen your picture one to two times, depending on how much you want it to be.

Next, you will go to Image then Mode and change it to CMYK color. Select the Layer Masking Tool on the bottom of your Tools Palette and that turn on the Layer Masking Tool. Zoom in on your image, and then select your paintbrush tool and click where you want to color at on your image. My example I selected her eyes. Next press down the Q key on your keyboard to go back to the regular mode, and then go to select then Inverse.

After you've selected inverse, go to Layer then New Adjustment Layer then select Curves. Once the box pops up, name that whatever you just colored, for my example it was her eyes, so I named it eyes and selected OK. A new box will pop up; I selected Magenta from my drop down menu and moved the line around until I found a color I liked. Once I was finished, I selected OK.

I then pressed then selected the Layer Masking Tool again to get my Layer Masking back on. I selected my Paint brush and went over the lips then pressed the Q key again to turn off the Layer Masking, and went to select then Inverse. Next I went to Layer then New Adjustment Layer then selected Curves and selected Magenta, again and moved my line around until I liked the color, then I selected OK

After I'm done coloring my image to how I like it. I added a 3PX border to my image, by going to select then Select All. After that I went to Edit then Stroke set my Stroke to Black and changed it to a 3PX.

Lastly, you can add text, brushes, textures, or anything else that you think will look good. Now you are done coloring your image. It should look like mine n the sidebar to the left.
