When you are looking for a job, do you just want any job? Or do you want the right job for you? Before you ever go for an interview, you need to do your homework. What kind of job do you want? Do you have a career in mind? Do you have special skills that will make you a valuable asset to a specific company or organization? Before you apply to a company you need to find out all you can about it. You might ask how to do that. Well, I am going to tell you.

Let's just say you are a nurse, and you are going to be moving to a new location in a month or two. You are interested in working in a medical office, because that is what you have done before. I would suggest that you first get several copies of your resume ready, to use at a later time. Make sure you sell yourself, by including your strengths in certain areas. Why would a firm want to hire you?

You have to know there is great competition for office nurses. These jobs are the cream of the crop for nurses. They get holidays off, and work usually 8 to 5. So you are really going to have to stand out in contrast to everyone else.

The Cover Letter

You need to write a cover letter that goes with your resume. There are services that can do this for you, but you can do it yourself. If you find that you are not good at writing about yourself then you can find a resume and cover letter service to do it for you for about $120. Just don't sell yourself short! Think about what you would say about yourself and give it a try.

Don't get too carried away with your cover letter. Just keep it short and to the point. All your perspective employer wants to see are all the pertinent facts. This letter has to be all positive; don't tell them that you have weak points. Everyone has them, but this is not the place to lay your negative attributes on the table. You are trying to get hired, if you remember.

One never knows who is going to look at the resume and if it will indeed be perused. The key is to have one that is good and does represent you and hope that in the numbers one of the jobs you apply for will be the one. Good advice and article to showcase that.

This is an awesome article. If only I would have seen this 14 years ago. It may have boosted my career earlier. Thanks so much
