The Lettuce Sea Slug is actually a slug which looks like lettuce. At first, when I saw this invertebrate I thought it was coral. It's definitely not coral and it will fool most people into thinking that it is which is its method of defense except in cases where fish like to eat lettuce. Before you get this slug you should make sure that none of your fish or invertebrates will hurt the slug. This slug is very peaceful and it will not harm anything in your tank. You can place it in your reef tank if you have hard or soft coral. It also does well in fish only tanks with any types of hard or soft coral. The slug is somewhat easy to care for as long as you have something for it to eat, which is very hard to find.

This slug should be kept at a temperature of around 72 to 76 degrees. You will also want to keep the salinity at around 1.022 to 1.026. As long as you can keep the salinity and temperature at the right level you shouldn't have any problems with the slug. You will need to ask the people at the pet store what they use to feed the slug. It should be provided with some type of leafy matter. Ask them if this slug likes to eat plankton, seaweed, algae or emerald entry. I'm sure between one of these you will find something that the Lettuce Slug will like to eat.

These slugs come in a variety of different colors. I am going to purchase one myself but I'm hoping to find a green one. The only one that I've ever seen has been white in color. I am going to check around at pet stores which are a little further away before I choose to get the white slug. I really want one that resembles lettuce, as a conversation piece.

If you are going to purchase this slug you will want to make sure that you remove it if you are going to medicate your fish. You don't want to leave it in the tank because it will get very stressed out and die. You can place it in a separate container with a heater and filtration system. Once the water has been changed and all the medication is out of the water, then it will be safe to place the slug back into your tank. Do not take the chance of leaving it in your aquarium because you will probably kill it and then have to find a new one.
