Visitors to England have a variety of options when it comes to exploring and experiencing the country's history. Yorkshire is an excellent place to spend a great deal of time, as the beautiful Yorkshire Dales make a stunning backdrop for the history set before you. However, if your time in Yorkshire is short, there is one piece of history that you can't afford to miss. Visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, spend a day, and you won't be disappointed.

Entrance Fees
Fountains Abbey is one of the more expensive abbeys to visit in England, with entry at just under 7 pounds for one adult. Children under 5 are free, as are members of the National Trust or English Heritage. Membership in English Heritage or National Trust is definitely worthwhile if you plan on doing much exploring while you are in England.

Food & Drink
Fountains Abbey has a lovely tea room that is relatively inexpensive. It is ideal for visitors looking to break up their exploration or to relax before heading out on their next adventure. Food ranges from sandwiches and sodas to tea and biscuits. In addition, they have a small play area for children inside of the restaurant.

Playground and Educational Exhibits
As you begin your stroll from the entrance to the abbey, you will pass a newly built playground for children. Children can play on swings, pretend to drive a horse drawn carriage, or climb on the ropes and cross bridges. This well designed playground gives children the opportunity to bring history to life. In addition, once you leave the playground you will encounter an educational exhibit, which provides information on the working history of the abbey as a watermill and farm. There are often activities for children in the exhibit center as well.
