For those that believe Presidential Candidate John Edward's belief that the war on terror is a "slogan a on a bumper sticker" should re-evaluate this notion. On September 6, the Israeli Air Force was ordered to attack a secret Syrian military installation. Prior to the air attack, an elite Israeli commando force seized North Korean nuclear material at the site.According to sources, the commando unit belonged to the legendary General Staff's Reconnaissance Unit (Sayaret Matkal) and led by Defense Minister Ehud Barak. It is believed that the unit was outfitted in Syrian military uniforms in order to infiltrate the installation.
Israeli Special Forces have been acquiring intelligence in Syria for months now, further solidifying proof of North Korea's activity there. During the summer, this information was given to President George Bush. According to the post report, Israel informed the US over the summer that North Korean personnel were in Syria in order to assist the country's nuclear weapons program. This intelligence purportedly included satellite imagery.
This report was robustly rejected by the former Syrian Information Minister Ma'Ahdi Dahallah and added that it is mere psychological warfare.
According to the British Sunday Times, North Korea and China believed that North Koreans were among the deceased in the IAF assault that followed the ground infiltration. This seems to be admittance by their government that they were in fact caught up in assisting Syria militarily.
Newsweek quoted Binyamin Netanyahu adviser Uzi Arad in regards to the Syrian operation as saying, "I do not know what happened and when it comes out it will stun everyone."
At a time when people are pleading to open dialog with these countries we can ask what is there to talk about. Behind the worlds back they are building up nuclear armament to annihilate Israel and the West. It does not help we have politicians like Representative Dennis Kucinich rubbing elbows with Syrian leadership and bashing America.
