Tonight was "Ladies Night" on the Season 5 Premiere of Dancing With The Stars. Jennie Garth, Josie Maran, Sabrina Bryan, Jane Seymour, Mel B. and Marie Osmond opened this season while the guys sat in comfort in the audience. Tomorrow night, Wayne Newton, Helio Castroneves, Mark Cuban, Floyd Mayweather, Cameron Mathison and Albert Reed will be taking the stage.

Jennie Garth and partner, Derek Hough, began the show fairly strong with the Cha Cha Cha. While not perfect, Jennie was still impressive for having never really danced and performing the first dance of out the box. In case you're wondering, and I know you are, Derek Hough is the brother of Julianne Hough who won last season's competition with partner/star Apolo Anton Ohno.

Josie Maran's Foxtrot with partner, Alec Mazo, wasn't so well received by the judges. With Alec claiming that Josie was "deceptively unfit," it looks like Josie might have the biggest challenge out of the Dancing With The Stars bunch. Seriously, at one point, Alec made mention of Josie being soft like Jell-O. Ouch.

Sabrina Bryan, who is apparently a member of Disney's Cheetah Girls (which, of course, probably means little to those of us over 25), brought a bit of hip hop to her Cha Cha Cha with partner, Mark Ballas. Despite the fact that the judges, understandably, took off points for the diversion, Sabrina's dance earned her the highest score of the night. Note to stars: Len Goodman, series judge, gets downright angry when you veer too far off the ballroom course.

Marie Osmond's toned down, but personality-infused Foxtrot with partner Jonathan Roberts earned her a few kudos from the judges and the crowd as well. Judging from the cheers in the audience, I'd say we'll be seeing her for awhile. Especially considering how many Osmonds there are out there. Hey! Don't get angry with me. She made the joke first.

Admittedly, I was most looking forward to Mel B., former Scary Spice, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy's dance. While not quite the show-stopper that Sabrina Bryan's Cha Cha Cha was, Mel's Cha Cha Cha was still one of the best dances of the night and was a hit with the judges.

L, I was slightly disappointed in this year's cast. There's a lot of potential, but it just doesn't really compare to the last two seasons. I've found myself growing weary of it already.

It is funny that there are so many people that think that this is a great cast. My wife has not watched this year after it being her favorite show in the past. She hates the cast this year. L.

I watched this for the first time - basically because I've gone back to ballroom dancing, something I've done on and off for the past 40 years. Boy, am I glad I did! Loved what you wrote. You make me wish I had watched that particular episode.

I used to love this show...we've gone TV-less. Great review! I'll check back for my weekly fix :)

Thanks! I didn't watch the first two seasons. Anytime someone mentioned it, I rolled my eyes and said, "Nevah!" Then I watched an episode. Crap. I was hooked. Part of it could be that I've always wanted to dance, but there's also something interesting about watching someone who's normally a talk show host or what have you work their butt off to learn to dance.

Awesome review Kelly! - I've never seen the show but I'm actually interested in giving it a try. I didn't realize it was such a diverse mix of stars and psuedo-stars.
