Must Have Aromatic Spices for Holiday Pumpkin Recipes

The Autumn and winter seasons and holidays are filled with the hearty aromas of homemade pumpkin recipes. Many pumpkin recipes rely on the same basic baking
and cooking ingredients to bring out the natural flavors of this seasonal food. Even if you don't know exactly which pumpkin recipe you'll be making this holiday season, be sure to pick up these must-have aromatic spices for popular pumpkin recipes.

The must-have baking ingredients for holiday pumpkin recipes will help you be prepared to make any number of popular pumpkin recipes including pie, bread, cookies, pancakes, and muffins.

Also, if that tin of cinnamon you have was passed down from your grandmother, consider replacing it with something fresher.

Must Have Spices for Holiday Pumpkin Recipes

Cinnamon Sticks - Purchase whole cinnamon sticks in a jar. The cinnamon sticks can be used whole in any hot seasonal drink. Or for truly fresh cinnamon, the cinnamon sticks can be grated to produce a fresh powder. You will need one cinnamon stick per 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

Cinnamon will also find its way into other holiday recipes. This aromatic spice also complements other seasonal produce including apples, berries, pears, and oranges.

Ground Cinnamon

A good non-bitter ground cinnamon also tops the list for pumpkin recipes. Find a jar of Ground Saigon
Cinnamon for a truly non-bitter and warm flavor.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg options include ground nutmeg, whole nutmeg and organic nutmeg. Purchase a small container of nutmeg, since a little goes a long way. Nutmeg goes well with holiday cooking and holiday baking, and any dishes with nuts.

Allspice

Allspice is another must-have pumpkin recipe spice. Although allspice tastes like hyped up cinnamon and nutmeg on a clove diet, you can't really substitute allspice with that combination. Allspice is a berry from an actual tree.

Ground Cloves

Ground cloves are for baking, save the whole cloves for adorning and spicing up baked hams

Ginger

I love pumpkin pie spice in lots of things. It can make a plain vanilla diet shake taste sooo good and it's interesting in coffee too. Great article and pumpkin is one of my favorites.

Yep :) Or just buy some pumpkin pie spice and save lots of $$$ :) But it is great to have them separate if you're going to use them in other dishes where not all of them are required.
