If you have been anywhere near a health care plan in the past few years, than you are most likely aware of the fact that many prescription plans do not actually cover brand name prescriptions and medication. Rather, these health care plans allow those that are covered to instead purchase the generic versions of said medications, usually at a fairly low price. The lower price of generic medication, however, has led many to wonder if it actually an effective substitute for brand name prescriptions, and if there is any difference between the two pills. While many patients may stand firm to the their own conclusions that brand name pills work better than generic medications, all medical research and inquiry conducted into the field points only to a single conclusion, that the generic pills are not only a much better value than their brand name counterparts, but that they are just as effective in treating whatever ails the patient.

Takeaways
  • The difference between generic and brand name pills.
  • What makes brand name pills cost a lot more.
  • Why does it take several years for the generic version of a pill to come out?
Did You Know?
For the most part, brand name prescriptions cost more because you are paying for a patented, copyrighted product.
