It's sort of a right of passage; girlfriends nagging their man about their obsessive sports watching habits. But, feeling deserted on Sundays during the winter is nothing compared to the neglect felt by a baseball fanatic's girlfriend.

"It doesn't really bother me." says Lauren Hoffmann, the abandoned girlfriend of a Yankees fan. "Until we moved in together it was never an issue. But, I was just thinking the other day how I couldn't wait until baseball season is over and then I realized it's way to early for me to be thinking that, it's only July.

Baseball is a 6 month sport and if that isn't bad enough, there are 162 games crammed into the season. Baseball is available virtually ever single night. For most of the girls' the weekdays aren't the problem. "We both work. He goes home to watch the game and I go to the gym, so it works out." says Lauren.

Weekends, too, were made for baseball.

For some couples this is the only real time you have with each other. But, if you think that brunch dates, walks in the park, or day trips to the beach can conflict with a true fan's baseball watching than you've seriously struck out. Even the most accepting girlfriend would be frustrated when she's faced with consulting the baseball schedule every time she plans a summer vacation or weekend getaway.

"What's worse is that when I get an invitation to a wedding or office party I immediately have to consult the schedule to see if I'll be going alone." says Megan McGinnis, who loses her fiancé to fantasy baseball. "If we do take a trip somewhere, he has to have internet access so that he can check scores and stats hourly."

How can she compete with something you've been in love with your whole life?

The bottom line is that we're not expecting you to change. It's fine, girls understand that it's as much about ritual and nostalgia as it is baseball. You're not a fair weather fan and girls respect you're unwavering commitment. We just hope you understand where we're coming from. Just don't get freaked out when we start asking about starting a family. After all, we'll need the babies to keep us company.
