You can't smoke at the tables at Famous Daves in Oakton, Virginia. This was a relief to me but a bit confusing as well. When I walked into the restaurant the hostess did not ask "smoking or non-smoking" and I was surprised because that was the first time I've experienced that. I can't stand the smell of smoke, especially while I am eating, so I was happy. However a few minutes later I caught a whiff of cigarette smoke and I was confused as to where it was coming from. I looked around for a few minutes until I saw someone smoking at the bar. "So you can smoke at the bar and not at the tables", I said as I scratched my head.
I love the taste of barbecue but since there is no polite way to eat ribs I stay away from them. You might think this would be a problem at a place that's known for their ribs but the menu was very accommodating. I opted for the chicken fingers while my partner indulged in their thick ribs.
I barely had time to sip my water and scratch my head when the food arrived. I don't believe I've ever gotten my food so quickly at a restaurant. My stomach was thankful.
I always try the sides before I eat the main dish so I tasted a bit of the potato salad. I am very picky about potato salad as most people don't make it to suit my tastes, but to my surprise it was fantastic.
The environment was filled with TV's showing everything from Dr. Phil to Sports Center. Another great thing is that the temperature of the restaurant was just right, whereas I've noticed that a lot of restaurants tend to be a bit too cold.
My only gripe is that I didn't really enjoy the sauces that they provide. It's a plus that they offer so many choices but most of them did not go well with my chicken fingers. The closest thing to regular barbecue sauce was the Rich & Sassy; which happened to be the last thing I tried after Texas Pit, Devil Spit, Sweet & Zest. I didn't try the Georgia Mustard sauce.
Pros:
The food came fast
The potato salad was great.
The temperature was nice.
Neutral
They are very creative with their sauces.
