The Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper is not as bad as being raved in most of the reviews. At the same time, I wouldn't rate it as a perfect corn zipper. In my opinion it is an average tool that does a fairly good job. This is certainly better than the other devices that claim to deseed them but makes a mess out of it. This is ideal for removing the core for three people and not for a large gathering. If you are looking out for something that works on a large scale, then go for Lee Wooden Corn Cutter.

This is strongly built with a superior quality stainless steel that can handle corn of any size and shape. The construction is powerful enough and does not budge under fibrous corn. The cutting edge is sharp and does not get rusted. It is durable and lasts long. The best part is that it does not get rusted and every time it shears through the raw or boiled corn with same efficiency. But the main hitch is that it is capable of peeling only two rows of kernel from the flesh. Going by its structure and size, I expected it to catch at least 4 rows. So don't be fooled by the appearance.

Working with Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper calls for some amount of patience at the initial stages. After few applications you will get used to it and it will become a child's play. A lot depends on the angle in which you use the cutter. Do not get frustrated and discontinue the product if the corn does not fall directly in to the vessel at the bottom. This is just the beginning and just like any gadget you will have some teething problems. Till you get accustomed to handling it adeptly, some amount of corn does scatter around the room. There is nothing to worry as in long run; everything that you learn from these mistakes will help you to handle the tool skillfully.

In short this cutter would have been a hit if they had tried to design with more ergonomic features. It is observed that sometimes it digs deep into the cob, while at times it scrapes through the corn superficially. Only time and some amount of practical knowledge will come to your rescue in zipping the corn without shell and other attachments. Still it is safer than the knife and gives better result than other corn splitters.
