I am 5 months pregnant getting prepared for the big arrival. I started researching and receiving advice from expert mothers on what you need before the due date. You can never be too prepared but one thing you probably can not control is the baby's birth. And when the water breaks, that suitcase should be filled with the essentials and ready to go!

Before The Water Breaks Essential Guide
A rear facing infant car seat
I heard they will not let you leave the hospital with the baby without one. Also, place the car seat in the car you will be bringing the baby home in about one month before delivery date. Understand the rules and safety methods of the product.

The small products that can be forgotten
If you can't live without your current products, be sure to pack them like your favorite soap, lotion, balm, etc. I can not live without hair accessories. I will need to pull my hair back in this situation. Other personal toiletries are glasses, contact lenses, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant. Pack in advance so you're not stuck depending on your partner or your mom to bring what you need.

Diapers, wipes, and other essentials
You really don't have to have a fully-loaded nursery or closet full of clothes waiting at home, but there are a few things you can't live without like some basic onesie, t-shirts, hats, and a receiving blanket. Also something important to purchase beforehand is a sleeper. You will need somewhere for the baby to sleep. There are many options for where the baby can sleep. Some of the common products purchased are Bassinets, Cribs, or Pack n' Play pins.

Although everything your baby needs for his or her stay in the hospital will be provided by the hospital including diapers and formula, you should be prepared to have most of what is mentioned above at your home when you arrive with the baby.

A camera or video camera and music
The first precious moments can't be repeated. If possible invest in a video camera. Our hospital does not allow video cameras, so make sure your hospital allows taping of the birth.

If music calms you down, pack a walkman with one or two of your favorite CDs.
