As a student, there are several foundational techniques that can help you excel at the one thing that you will be doing most - taking test. Test taking tips are a great way to increase your scores, while managing your time wisely. Having to take a test is something that as a student you must do periodically in order to gain an understanding on how far along you are moving in the learning process. While many students have their own unique methods to taking tests, if you follow these top test taking tips, than you will find success quicker and easier than you ever thought.

The first test taking tip is something that you can do no matter what type of test you are taking. Make sure that whenever you first read the questions on the test, you thoroughly understand what the question is asking. This may mean you have to read the question several times, however, make sure that you pay attention to several key words. These words are "never," "always," and "not." The main reason why students miss a question is because they did not pay attention to the details of the question. By reading each word carefully, you will greaten your chances at choosing the correct answer.

The next test taking tip is to create marks next to the questions you are unsure about. Whenever you are reading your test, make sure that you do not spend too much time on a single question during the first run of the test. Read through all of the questions, and answer the ones that you are sure about, and the questions that take you longer to figure out, save those for the end. This is a great time management skill for any type of test, and when used properly, will allow you to complete the test in proper time. If you are unsure about a question, put a start beside it and only when you have completed the questions you know you have correct, go back to the "starred" questions and answer them.
