Single income families can save hundreds of dollars each year with resourcefulness, a little extra time and patience. I am a stay-at home Mom of two girls. Although my husband has a good job, expenses add up quickly with a family of four. However, there are so many ways that one income families can save money and still live comfortably (not luxuriously - comfortably). My family has been fortunate to never have to go without. We have two car payments and all the other normal living expenditures including that ridiculously expensive electric bill, but we always manage to make it though to each month and even save a little along the way. How do you do it you might ask? Well, let me share with you just a few little adjustments and show you how much you can save each month.

In Texas, Plato's closet is a great place for teens. I even get some of my clothes from there.

Like Carol I'm having a harder time finding those gently used clothes as my daughter gets older. However, though it wasn't entirely my choice I'm thankful I've been able to stay at home with my girls. Good job!

I love your advice. We basically do the same thing here in my family and it really works out. Money gets in the way sometimes. I love the challenge of saving a few bucks anyways!

These are such great tips. By the way, after reading your mother-in-law's glowing article about your relationship, I just had to stop by! Sophie

Great tips. You and I seem to have much in common too! Oh- and used shoes aren't a good idea anyway. Shoes mold to the wearer's feet and that wearing someone else's shoes can really screw up the feet (especially little kiddos whose feet are still developing).

These are great tips. We did many gently used clothes when our kids were younger. We still do to an extent but it is harder to find bargains as kids age and the previous owners have subjected the clothes to longer wear under more onerous conditions.
