I never thought that I would be one of those obsessive parents that are always snapping pictures of their babies and children. I'm not talking about a few here and there, I am talking about 50 plus pictures from the same event. Alas, after the birth of both of my daughters I have had a camera permanently attached to my hand. Here are some tips and tricks that I have found for taking the best pictures of your children. Pictures are one of the best ways to capture precious moments that you can share with your child when the get older. Read these tips and then get to snap some pictures.

Act Natural

In the beginning, I made the mistake of always getting my children to pose in certain positions. However, I have found that the best pictures I have taken were during the times that my daughters were just being themselves. The feeling can be captured in their eyes and expressions and their genuine smiles are precious. Take some pictures of them playing and doing their thing and you will be able to tell the difference.

Follow the Professionals

Not all photos can be taken without having the child sit down or pose. For these photos, take a tip from the professionals. Do something behind the camera that will make your child laugh or smile. Keep talking to them and keep them engaged in you so that they do not realize that they are sitting down. If all else fails, go ahead and capture the moment regardless if you child is crying or smiling. We can't all be happy in every picture, can we?

Go Digital

Another tip that I have come across if that if you are a picture snapper like me, than you should go digital. Purchase a digital camera that has a screen on the back so that we can immediately see if the picture is bad or good. This will eliminate missing a photo opportunity because you got a bad picture. This also allows you to only develop pictures that you really want which can save you money in the long run.

Take Pictures Always

Good tips. I don't have kids yet, but I'll keep these things in mind.

I love the digital shots - my kids want to see the pictures as soon as it is taken, even if it isn't a digital camera! LOL

Only thing about digitals is the delay when you are shooting candidads. I agree that digital is easier to use, though. These are great tips for taking photos of your kids.
