The Children's Hands On Museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is anything but your average educational museum. While learning is a key element in a trip to the Children's Hands On Museum, the museum goes far beyond mere learning and inspires the imagination of both children and adults through a series of life-like interactive exhibits. A visit to the museum puts the child directly in the role of being a doctor, astronaut or Native American, to name just a few of the many exhibits available at this unique attraction.

The Children's Hands On Museum is an ideal destination for families, school outings and anything involving children of all ages. Children who visit the museum are inspired, enlightened and educated by being placed into a series of interactive exhibits that bring the learning experience to life. Children may use the planetarium, a Choctaw Indian Village, Television Studio, Bank or Hospital, among other interactive exhibits, to bring a new perspective to the learning process. What better way for a child to learn what it is like to be a television star than to place them on the set of a realistic television studio?

This mission of the Children's Hands On Museum is simple and to the point. The museum strives to provide a dynamic learning experience that stimulates curiosity, creativity and shared discovery in children of all ages. Anyone who has ever visited the museum will agree that the Children's Hands On Museum accomplishes all of this and more.

Another interesting aspect that makes the Children's Hand On Museum in Tuscaloosa different from other children's museums is the origins of the museum. The Children's Hands On Museum began life as a concept that area school children put together in 1984. By 1986, the concept had gained so much attention from media and parents that the museum was opened on the University of Alabama campus.

This makes the Children's Hands On Museum is perhaps the only children's museum in the country that was designed from the ground up, for children - by children. The museum was later moved to the downtown area in 1988, and reopened to the general public a few months later in early 1989.
