There is a very strange phenomenon occurring in the United States of America right now, something very un-American. Brace yourself - politicians are being considerate of their constituents. Did a little shudder just go down your spine? I know it did mine. Personally, I feel that having admitted to a considerate-politician-sighting is akin to admitting to a Bigfoot-sighting. You are pretty sure that you have been snookered, and that sooner or later you will regret your naïve admission.

So here is what our politicians are doing that is so very uncharacteristic - they are avoiding calling cell phones to do their political polling. Why are they doing such a thing? After all, they do not hesitate to call our landlines at dinner time, or at bedtime, or simply a million irritating times a day. They are avoiding calling cell phones because the recipient of such a call will end up paying for it. Can you believe it? Consideration! Woo-hoo!

Of course, there are a few other reasons that they have - thus far - avoided being inconsiderate of the general public. For one thing, they have found that most people who do not have a landline and rely solely on their cell phones for communication are young people and young people do not tend to vote anyway. And because most of the people who rely solely on cell phones are young, unmarried, and do not have a lot of disposable income they tend to be liberal in their political views. In other words, they already know how this particular portion of the population votes - when or if they vote at all. So - this makes a little more sense. They are not just being considerate of us. They feel that they aren't missing out on much if they do not call our cell phones.
