Many windows are covered with window roller blinds. These are the white or off-white plastic fabric shades that roll up or down over your window. They are great for privacy, blocking sunlight, and covering unpleasant views. However, they are not very attractive themselves. This article will cover five decorator ideas for window roller blinds. Window Roller Blinds - Decoupage
One of the easiest ways to decorate your window roller blinds is to cover them with decoupage pictures. Decoupage is the art of pasting cut-out pictures and designs onto another surface. To decorate your window roller blind, simply cut images out of wall paper, wrapping paper, or fabric, and use decoupage medium or watery glue to attach them to the shade. Plain paper designs are harder to attach to the shades, and tend to crinkle when it is rolled up.
Window Roller Blinds - Trims and Fringe
Since the bottom of the window roller blind is the part that is most commonly seen, it is a fine idea to decorate it instead of the entire blind. Purchase a selection or lace, trim, fringe, or other decorator trim at the craft or sewing store. Then, simply use craft glue or a hot glue gun to attach it to the bottom of the window roller blind in whatever way tickles your fancy.
Window Roller Blinds - Painting
Roller window blinds can be painted with acrylic craft paints. If you are talented, try to paint a picture of a beautiful garden or tropical scene. It will look like there is a paradise outside your window. You can also paint the window roller blind in any color or pattern that matches your room. Another great idea is to use stencils to create a picture or pattern on the blind.
Window Roller Blinds - Fabric Covering
Like decoupage, you can cover the entire window roller blinds with fabric of your choice. Cut out the fabric to fit over the blind with a half inch to one inch extra to fold to the back. Use watered down glue or fabric tack to attach it to the window roller blinds.
