My family has always been one to start Christmas shopping well before the Christmas Season actually begins. Often my family would begin shopping for Christmas on December 26 the year before! As we approach Halloween, stores will slowly but surely begin stocking up on Christmas items. Emily and I have already picked up a Christmas present or two.

You may be wondering why people such as myself start shopping for Christmas so early. Is it really beneficial to begin shopping in October? I've found that starting this early does indeed help out with the Christmas shopping process in the long run. Here are the reasons why you should start your Christmas shopping now instead of later.

First reason you should start your Christmas shopping in early October: Prices

From now until roughly November 1 Christmas items are normally cheaper. Also, many stores will have special deals on their Christmas items. For example, Em and I found a Hallmark store in the city that had a special buy one get one on specific Christmas items. I won't say which because we picked up a few of the items for some family members and we don't want to give it away! This deal will almost definitely not be around in a month. Do some searching in your area and I'm sure you'll find some great deals.

Second reason you should start your Christmas shopping in early October: Avoid procrastination

Christmas shopping is one of those things that people just love to wait until the last minute to do. By picking up a few items at this time of the year procrastination can be avoided. We have bought less than ten Christmas presents thus far. That may not seem like much but we have a couple people already scratched off of our Christmas "to buy for" list. It's a start.

Third reason you should start your Christmas shopping in early October: Nothing is picked over

Love this article! I actually started sometime in the summer :) I hope to be done by the end of November so I can enjoy the holidays rather than being stuck in long lines.

I shop all year, especially if I see something that is perfect for someone. Also, if you start early, you aren't limited to only one season for certain kinds of merchandise.

Wonderful. I always start my shopping even before this but then I sort of shop all year, when I see something I think someone might like I buy it and put it aside for their birthday or Christmas. You have made some great points here. Thanks

My mom was one to start as soon as the after Christmas deals start showing up! I am terrible because I end up giving them out as soon as they arrive!!!

Good points. What if I like procrastination, though? I'm just not ready...

These are all great reasons. Also, you can spread the cost over several months instead of suddenly having to spend a lot at once.
