As a member of Amazon's Vine program and a top reviewer there, I had the opportunity to review The Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks, a product touted as a high-performance Webcam with Autofocus, special effects for video and photos and other special features. The camera is specifically designed to be compatable with Windows Vista, and computers must have Windows XP and a minimum of a Pentium 4.14 GHz or AMD Athlon processor plus 125 MB RAM. It comes with a 2-year limited warranty. Laptops or notebooks must also have a 1.1 or 2.0 USB port, OS compatable sound card and speaker and 16-bit color display adapter as well as a CD-ROM drive and 200-MG hard drive available. This would be an excellent Christmas, birthday or holiday gift for someone this year.

Here is my personal experience and analysis.

Product Details:

Here is what you get with the Logitech Quickcam Pro package: a webcam which can be use alone or set in the middle of your laptop by attaching it to the top screen, a travel case for holding the camera, a stand if you want to take photos or videos of yourself or other things at eye level, a CD for easy setup and the start guide.

Setup and installation:

This was a breeze. I do not consider myself a pro when it comes to technology or add-ons but this was simply a matter of inserting the accompanying CD and letting it go to work. I have since learned that you can also download the more experienced users but the CD was fine with me. It tested audio levels, automatically linked to our computer system and tested out performance of video and audio before it completed installation. We were extremely pleased with how easy this was. Within minutes, we were using the Webcam. It could not have been simpler.

Ease of use and Performance:

My son, a teen, absolutely fell in love with this and so did I. Within minutes, we were shooting videos and photos and having so much fun with the special effects and other options. The User's Guide is very short but completely informative about the camera features, including location of a snapshot button, notebook clip, autofocus lens system and the microphone.

Takeaways
  • Easy to set up
  • Excellent audio quality
  • Superior video quality

Super review! I used to have a webcam, but we got tired of playing with it. :-)

What a great review. I am not sure about having a webcam though. Maybe when the kids are out of their teens.

I use a Logitech quickcam and it has worked very well. It was inexpensive, which made us hesitant, but we have had no problems.

Wonderful review. We use a webcam to get voice communication with relatives via IM. Saves a lot on the phone bill. Loved your article.

Harriet Sorry. The cost is about $89.00. I got mine free to test but you can find them used for much less from seller. It is really a nifty camera. WOuld work great for the new video auctions and sale options at Ebay and Amazon. Have you seen those?

This sounds great. What is the cost--a least give me some idea.

Kim I don't know if it will work in Linux. Sorry, I'm not a major techie but that was one of the reasons I loved this, the very easy, almost brainless setup. It took minutes!

I wonder if it will work in Linux? I have an older Logitec QuickCam that works out of the box in Ubuntu. Since Vista (in my opinion the worst operating system ever created) came on the scene my "windoz" days are over! Sounds like a very nice webcam overall. Great article!

Charlotte I don't think it is criminal as long as the webcam police don't find out about it. I won't say a word, promise!

You know we've had a webcam for years now and never hooked it up. I know, it's criminal!
