The first episode of the newest season of "My Name Is Earl" kicked off with a humorous start. It starts off with Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) in prison and his cellmate being Ralph (Giovanni Ribisi). Before cutting to commercial break, Earl finds a note left by Ralph saying that he had the melons and escaped from the cell. When Earl discovers the hole in the cell window that Ralph made, the prison guards spotted him. It starts off humorously with Earl getting beaten up by the prison guards. But, out of curiosity I wondered how Ralph got locked up. As a result, Earl got put up with the general population.

It's an interesting start of Earl adjusting to prison life and adjusting with dealing with the general population. Earl explains things in the most comical fashion such as people attempting to kill each other. He also explained that just pray that you're not the "victim." But regardless of the people responsible, all the prisoners get punished anyway. And Earl ends up getting a cavity search. The first episode looks to put a very comical spin on prison life and different cliques.

Things take an interesting turn of events when Earl meets up people he have known from the past such as a person that was proud to be a boyscout and used boyscouts to round up illegals. At the same time, Randy ends up moving in with Joy (Jaime Pressley) and Crabman (Eddie Steeples) temporarily. But there is a lot of action taking place inside and outside of prison. While Earl avoids getting raped and/or killed by the other prisoners, Randy getting killed by his own actions at the same time getting killed by Joy.

Humorously, it looks as if Joy is going through more punishment than Earl is in prison.

Though the episode came off on an interesting start, the first half hour looked to be a bit flat with a bit of humor. However, I was looking for a bit more humor in the first half hour. But it picks up a lot as Earl has to compromise himself and create a shiv for Glenn. In a humorously ironic twist of fate, Glenn stabs Earl in the arm with the shiv. Then, everything starts to unfold and progress as Earl now has to put Glenn on the list. Basically, Glenn is the way he is because of Earl in the past.
