Before getting into PPC marketing, just know that it's not a game that you can just throw money into. This isn't just some money making method that isn't going to take a lot of work to be successful at. Pay-per-click marketing is the pinnacle of online marketing for most commercial businesses. PPC has made the process of targeting markets un-comparably effective. You are entering an advertising field of business marketers so expect competition.

There are three main search engines that offer PPC. Google's Adwords program is the most popular and is the most competitive. Yahoo! Search Marketing and MSN Adcenter are also very good PPC programs but with less competition than Google Adwords. There is no debate that Yahoo! and MSN can make you lucrative profits as there is less competition than Google, but Google is heavily favored because of the manner in which they conduct their PPC business.

Yahoo and MSN base their PPC engine rankings based on the highest bidder, therefore, the person who bids the highest price for a particular keyword gets top rank. This pretty much sucks for beginners to PPC. Google bases their rankings not only on bid price, but also more importantly on how RELAVENT the Ad relates to the keyword in question.

Yahoo is going through a major change that will change it's PPC performance to be more similar to Google's, and MSN is still fairly new to PPC marketing and I do not use them. I personally use Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing for my PPC campaigns. For this report, I'm going to refer mainly to Google and Yahoo!

Step 1-Find the Market

The thing that most beginners do that hurts them when they enter PPC marketing is bidding on the wrong keywords and targeting the wrong people. Find your keywords and products that relate is your first step to PPC marketing. You want to be as specific as possible when targeting your market. Let's take the "Apple Ipod" for example.
